Backend Engineer

Role Description

This is a full-time role for a Backend Engineer. You will work directly with the co-founders, engineers, and product team to design, build, scale, and maintain the backend systems that power SPUN’s platform.

You will take ownership of our backend architecture, driving scalable system design and security. Key responsibilities include optimizing APIs, structuring analytics-friendly databases, and collaborating with the front-end team to ensure a cohesive user experience. This is an on-site role located in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Working Conditions

  • Role type: Full-time

  • Working location: Jakarta, Indonesia (WFO on Tue–Thu, WFA on Mon & Fri)

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience

  • 2-5 years of backend engineering experience, ideally within a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment.

  • Strong capabilities in system design, with the proven ability to architect, build, and scale distributed systems.

  • Experience in data modeling and database schema design, ensuring data is structured cleanly for both operational use and easy analytics/reporting.

  • Solid experience with Python for backend development (Django is a strong plus)

  • Deep understanding of and hands-on experience with RDBMS such as PostgreSQL including query optimization.

  • Proven experience designing, building and integrating scalable REST APIs

  • Proficiency in version control Git and designing efficient CI/CD flows to ensure reliable and maintainable deployment processes.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written

  • Ability to work cross-functionally alongside backend engineers, product designers, and non-technical teams

  • Strong interest in AI development & AI products

  • Nice to have: Familiarity with AWS, basic experience with JavaScript frameworks (Next.js, React, TypeScript)
