Indonesia Second Home Visa: Eligibility and Requirements

Thinking about making Indonesia your second home? The Indonesia Second Home Visa (official code E33) allows foreign nationals to stay in the country long-term without a local sponsor, for up to 5 years at first, with the option to extend up to 10 years in total.

You qualify through your finances, with no age or employer requirement. When you apply, you must provide a personal bank statement with a minimum balance of USD 2,000 over the last 3 months.

Within 90 days of entering Indonesia on the visa, you must provide one of two guarantees; either deposit at least USD 130,000 in your own name at an Indonesian state-owned bank, or purchase an apartment or flat valued at a minimum of USD 1,000,000.

Summary

  • The official visa code is E33. Some older guides refer to it as "B213A", which is not on the official visa index.

  • No sponsor, no age limit and no monthly income requirement for the general E33.

  • Initial stay up to 5 years, extendable to a total of 10 years.

  • Applicants aged 55 or over may also qualify for the E33E senior visa.

What is the Indonesia Second Home Visa?

E33 is a limited-stay visa designed for foreigners who wish to establish a second home in Indonesia, such as a house, villa or other property. Instead of a sponsor, you need to provide an immigration guarantee.

Where you choose to live is up to you, but only an apartment or flat valued at least USD 1,000,000 counts as the property guarantee. If your second home is a house or villa, you must meet the guarantee requirement through the USD 130,000 deposit instead. You may also come across the term "Indonesia B213A visa" when researching your options, but the official visa code is E33.

You can apply for the Second Home Visa through the Directorate General of Immigration. Although immigration now falls under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, you may still see the former Ministry of Law and Human Rights mentioned on official visa pages because the regulations were issued under that ministry.

Who qualifies for the Second Home Visa?

The official E33 page outlines the following Indonesia visa eligibility criteria: no sponsor (neither a person nor a company), no age requirement, and a personal bank statement showing a minimum balance of USD 2,000 over the last 3 months. You must also meet one of the following financial requirements:

  • Deposit at least USD 130,000 in an account under your own name at a state-owned bank, or

  • Purchase an apartment or flat in Indonesia valued at least USD 1,000,000.

E33 is one Indonesia visa for expats that does not depend on a local employer. Indonesia has three main types of Second Home Visa that foreign nationals may apply for: E33, E33E and E33F. The table below compares them:

The senior Second Home Visa for retirees offers two stay options: 5 years (E33E) or 1 year (E33F). The 1-year E33F requires a sponsor, and its official page lists no deposit, while the 5-year E33E requires no sponsor but a USD 50,000 deposit. The official index also lists other Second Home Visa types for specific groups, such as the remote worker visa (E33G), each with its own requirements.

What proof of funds do you need to show?

The Indonesia visa financial documentation consists of two parts, and you need both:

  • With your application: a personal bank statement (minimum USD 2,000, or the equivalent, over the last 3 months, showing your name, the period and the balance). You must also submit a commitment statement stating the guarantee you intend to provide.

  • Within 90 days of entering Indonesia on the visa: proof of the USD 130,000 deposit at a state-owned bank, or of the purchase of an apartment or flat valued at a minimum of USD 1,000,000. This must be reported to the Indonesian immigration office that issued your stay permit. You must keep the guarantee at that value for the duration of your permit.

Older guides quote IDR 2 billion for the deposit, but the current official page states USD 130,000 or the equivalent.

On Indonesia visa income requirements, the general E33 has no monthly income requirement. Only the senior visas, E33E and E33F, require income or an allowance of at least USD 3,000 per month.

Which documents do you need, and how does the process work?

The Indonesia visa documentation requirements on the official E33 page are:

  • A passport valid for at least six months

  • A bank statement showing USD 2,000 over the last three months

  • A color passport photo taken within the last year

  • A CV

  • A travel history and itinerary

  • A commitment statement for your guarantee

Can you work or study on a Second Home Visa?

The current official E33 page states that you may also work, study or carry out other activities if you report them as additional activities to the immigration office that issued your stay permit. However, it prohibits work that does not match your stay permit: E33 holders may work remotely for companies based overseas, but may not work for Indonesian companies, and in Indonesia their permitted activities are limited to things like investment, business or purchasing goods. Foreign nationals who want to work for an Indonesian employer should instead look at the E33B Second Home Visa, which is for specialized experts collaborating with the Indonesian government.

Is there a separate Bali Second Home Visa?

No. E33 is a national visa with the same requirements across Indonesia, whether you live in Bali, Jakarta or anywhere else. An apartment or flat anywhere in Indonesia, including Bali, can qualify under the property option.

How do you apply for the Second Home Visa through SPUN Global?

SPUN Global offers the Second Home Visa as its Second Home ITAS service. According to the product page, it is an electronic visa with no appointment and no physical documents required.

SPUN Global handles offshore applications only. If you are already in Indonesia, the FAQ on the page says you must leave Indonesia once the visa is issued and re-enter from abroad using the new visa.

How it works:

  • Log in to your SPUN Global account, open the Second Home ITAS page, pay online and upload your documents, including the three-month bank statement.

  • The platform's AI tools and visa experts organize, autofill and check your documents before submission.

  • The SPUN Global team submits the application to the authorities, and you can track its progress in your account. The product page quotes a processing time of 14 to 20 working days.

  • You receive your visa result from SPUN Global.

After you enter Indonesia on the visa, you must make the deposit or the apartment or flat purchase within 90 days. You must then report it to the issuing immigration office. If you already hold an ITAS, SPUN Global offers a separate Second Home ITAS (Change of Status) service.

A document review can help reduce the risk of rejection by identifying missing or inconsistent information before submission. However, the final approval decision rests with the relevant Indonesian authorities.

Before you apply, you can contact SPUN Global to check your eligibility for the Second Home Visa.

Ready to plan your long-term stay in Indonesia? Start with the SPUN Global Second Home ITAS page.

If you want to visit Indonesia first to explore areas or view apartments, SPUN Global also offers the e-VOA, the C1 single-entry tourist visa and the D1 multiple-entry tourist visa. These are visit visas and do not replace the E33.

What should you do next?

Indonesia retirement visa requirements and second home visa rules are set by the Directorate General of Immigration, which makes the final decision. Read the official E33 page (or E33E if you are 55 and older), prepare your three-month statement, and plan how you will meet the guarantee within 90 days of entry. Whether you apply directly or use a visa service, you remain responsible for complying with your visa's validity, permitted length of stay and conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my family join me?

Yes, provided they meet immigration rules. Family members may apply for a visa linked to your Second Home Visa or stay permit by providing family relationship documents, and must show proof of sufficient financial means. The official eVisa page for this family visa prohibits employment.

I used to be an Indonesian citizen. Is E33 the right visa for me?

Not necessarily. Former Indonesian citizens and their descendants have a separate E32 series of repatriation visas on the official index. Check those options first.
